Custom LASIK
CustomLASIK is the most advanced LASIK procedure designed to provide personalized laser vision correction for people with nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. CustomVue system, approved by FDA, uses WavePrint technology to identify unique imperfections within the eye, guiding the laser to provide personalized correction for each patient. The CustomLASIK procedure, a customized LASIK approach, has the potential to improve vision beyond contacts and glasses.
The CustomLASIK procedure utilizes WavePrint technology to produce a detailed map of each individual's visual irregularities based on the variability of how light is focused within the eye. This information is then transferred to the VISX STAR S4 laser, enabling Dr. Niksarli to customize each LASIK procedure to the individual’s specific needs.
This WavePrint approach can provide 25 times more accuracy than standard measurements for glasses or contact lenses. It can also identify many surface irregularities that were previously undetectable and untreatable.

CustomLASIK incorporates Wavefront diagnostic technology to capture the total aberrations in the visual system. Whereas earlier technology (including all current contact lens and eyeglass technology) only corrects low order aberrations of the eye, CustomLASIK can correct both LOW and HIGH order aberrations within the visual system. Therefore, CustomLASIK is the only modality that has the potential to improve someone's vision beyond glasses or contact lenses.
While for certain patients the difference between Custom and standard LASIK may be negligible, for others the difference in the quality and quantity of vision can be significant. Can I be promised perfect vision after CustomLASIK treatment?
Wavefront technology is pushing LASIK results to a level that could not be achieved with earlier technologies. Certainly, following treatment with the most advanced form of vision correction, it is tempting to expect vision that is superior to that achieved with eyeglasses, contacts, or standard LASIK technology. According to FDA data on VISX CustomLASIK, most patients are able to achieve better vision than was possible with earlier technologies. What can I expect regarding my night-vision following CustomLASIK treatment?
In the FDA study of CustomLASIK treatment based on 351 eyes, a higher percentage of patients were satisfied or very satisfied with their night vision after their LASIK treatment as compared to before the treatment. In addition, a lower percentage of patients were dissatisfied with their night vision post-operatively as compared to before their LASIK treatment. In summary, night vision after CustomLASIK treatment was better than night vision with glasses or contact lenses before the LASIK treatment.
