What Are the Benefits of ZEISS SMILE Eye Surgery?

ZEISS SMILE Eye Surgery, short for Small Incision Lenticular Extraction (SMILE), is a vision correction procedure that corrects nearsightedness and astigmatism. SMILE is the most advanced laser vision correction procedure available.

Since receiving FDA approval, SMILE has helped millions of patients experience better vision than ever before while achieving visual freedom. Unlike LASIK, SMILE does not use ablation or a flap to achieve vision correction.

During the procedure, the ZEISS VisuMax femtosecond laser creates a lenticule. A lenticule is a layer of tissue about the size and shape of a contact lens. Your surgeon will create a tiny 3.5 mm incision in the cornea and remove the lenticule through it. The incision created during SMILE is 80% smaller than the flap made during a conventional LASIK procedure.

There’s no pain during SMILE. Patients can look forward to a quick and comfortable recovery after the procedure. After SMILE, you can look forward to crisp, clear vision!

Thanks to the tiny flap created during the procedure, you don't have to worry about dry eyes, so you'll be comfortable and get back to what you love sooner. Combine that with better vision than you ever achieved with visual aids, and it's easy to see why millions have chosen to have SMILE.

What is Ultra-Thin Flap Bladeless LASIK?

Not all LASIK procedures are created equal. At Manhattan LASIK Center, we offer Ultra-Thin Flap Bladeless LASIK.

LASIK is an acronym for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. Ultra-Thin Flap Bladeless LASIK is an advanced version of a traditional LASIK procedure that uses ZEISS VisuMax femtosecond technology to correct refractive errors, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. With this technology, our surgeons can create the world’s thinnest 80-micron LASIK flaps.

By making these ultra-thin flaps, patients have stronger corneas, better visual results, and a dramatically reduced chance of developing post-procedure dry eye.

What People Are Saying

“I can’t believe I did it!”

I got laser vision correction with a new procedure called SMILE. It is very similar to LASIK, but less invasive and is less likely to have “dry eyes” side effects. Our world is so beautiful, and I want to see all of it bright and clear!

Quick facts about procedure:

  • You’ll spend about 2-3 hours in the clinic total
  • They will check your vision and whether you are a good candidate for surgery
  • The surgery is 100% painless and takes about 10 minutes per each eye
  • You’ll have to wear sunglasses provided by the clinic the day of procedure, and when outside for the next week, to protect your eyes from UV light

So happy and grateful to be able to see the world 100% clear now! Thank you friends who recommended and advised me to do it!
