If you are tired of wearing glasses or contacts, getting laser vision correction could be one of your options. For a long time, LASIK and other laser eye surgery procedures were the only options. So, what happens if you are not a candidate for LASIK

Fortunately, there is another option in the form of Visian® ICL™. This is a procedure where an implantable Collamer lens treats vision problems. Could Visian ICL be the answer that you have been looking for?

Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)

If you want great vision without wearing corrective lenses, ICL may be the solution for you. ICL is an artificial lens that is implanted surgically in the eye. The plastic and collagen lens treats myopia and astigmatism

Your surgeon at Manhattan LASIK Center will implant the ICL in your cornea during surgery. The artificial lens will sit in front of the eye’s natural lens behind the iris, and cause the eye’s natural lens to refract light correctly onto the retina, producing clearer vision.

Candidates for Visian ICL

Visian ICL is an alternative for patients who cannot get laser surgery. But just like with LASIK, the procedure is not for everyone. Your eye doctor will help determine if you are a candidate for the surgery.

If your prescription has not changed for over one year, you may be a good candidate. People with chronic dry eye, thin corneas, or who have high prescription numbers are good candidates for the procedure. ICL is ideal for patients between the ages of 21 and 45.

Before the ICL Procedure

During your consultation, your surgeon at Manhattan LASIK Center will perform a series of tests to measure your eye’s suitability to the Visian ICL procedure. Once it is determined that you are a good candidate for the procedure, your doctor will go over what to expect during and after the surgery.

During the ICL Procedure

On the day of your surgery,  you will receive local anesthesia to numb the eye, as well as receive eye drops to dilate your pupils. A mild sedative may also be given to help you relax.

Your eye surgeon in Manhattan will then make a small opening in the eye to insert the Visian lens.

After the ICL Procedure

After the procedure, Many patients experience improved vision immediately following the surgery. Your surgeon at Manhattan LASIK Center will prescribe to aid in the healing process following the procedure.

You will need someone to drive you home. A follow-up appointment is scheduled the next day, during which time your surgeon checks the progress.

Having an implantable Collamer lens can be very beneficial. Apart from improving vision, the lens corrects problems that other surgical procedures cannot treat. The procedure is also reversible, and the lens can be removed surgically if the patient wishes to do so.
