Blade-Free, Flap-Free…
Quiet and least invasive refractive surgery

The latest technique for refractive eye surgery has proven to be very effective in treating low to high amounts (-1.00 to -10.00) of myopia as well as astigmatism. This new procedure is called ZEISS SMILE. ZEISS SMILE stands for Small Incision Lenticule Extraction.

LASIK in NYC requires a 2-step procedure. A surgeon may choose to use a blade or a laser to first create a flap on the cornea layer. The second step uses an excimer laser to reshape the cornea. The excimer laser makes a loud clicking sound and patients will typically notice a slight odor during the treatment. Unlike LASIK surgery in NYC, ZEISS SMILE in NYC  requires only one femtosecond laser. A femtosecond laser is used to separate a small, lens-shaped tissue (lenticule) within the cornea. Then, with the same laser, a 4mm incision is made in the surface of the cornea, in which the lenticule is extracted to reshape the cornea. Since the excimer laser is not used during ZEISS SMILE procedures, the procedure is quiet, odorless and considered the least invasive refractive surgery. ZEISS SMILE protects the eye from the risk of flap-related complications allowing the cornea to remain stable and lessening the chances of dry eye syndrome.
